It's Family Day Weekend

It’s  Thursday folks!

Saying that we had a busy week would be an understatement, but it was definitely filled with a lot of fun and laughter.

Great work Surkhab!
Today the class watched SJA go up against The Maples Academy in the annual Oral Speech Competition. Our very own Surkahb represented the 4th graders, and man did she do amazing. Surkhab went home with a silver medal in the Junior Finalist division! Great job Surkhab!

This weekend is Family day! I hope you all have a lot of fun activities planned because there is no school tomorrow (Feb. 16th) or on Monday (Feb. 19th). I have sent a writing activity home that is all about family day. Here is the writing prompt:

Today in math we completed our unit 4 decimals retest. We checked and rechecked our work. Students will receive their final mark on Tuesday.

I am also asking the kiddos to read at least 20 mins each day. You can have them read on their own or you can snuggle up together with some hot cocoa and read a book together!

Language – Family Day Writing
-         Read for 20 mins

When the kids return on Tuesday the school will be hosting our Jump Rope for Heart event. We ask that you send your child to school in their gym uniform. There is also still time to raise donations to such a great cause; our school goal is $1000.00, so let’s see if we can get it done together.

Here’s a quick reminder from Ms. Bancud - You are now able to order for March Lunches. The deadline for March lunches is Friday, February 23rd, 2018.  After this date, our system closes and is unable to open for March ordering.  Please make sure your child is under the correct grade.  All payments are due on Friday, March 9th, 2018. This month's special is Pancakes with Cinnamon Apples with a side of syrup that will be available every Friday!

  • Shortly after completing your order, a Freshbooks invoice will be sent to your email.

We are still accepting packages as we value your loyalty and commitment to our school community and would love to continue our partnership by offering enrollment for our current SJA families. We kindly ask that you take a moment to review your financial statement and complete the information in the package and make any necessary changes to your place of residence, employment, email changes or any medical information that the administration should be aware of. Please be aware that in order to secure your child’s enrolment, it is imperative that you submit your re-enrollment package and fees no later than February 12, 2018 at 4:00pm. After this date, all available grade-level spaces will be open to our families on waitlists who will then have the opportunity to secure any vacant positions. Looking forward to seeing you all for another year, so let's get those registration forms in!

*The wait list will be opened to new students tomorrow, so please get your forms in to reserve your child’s spot for the next school year*

Jump Rope for Heart - St. Jude’s Academy is pleased to be holding a Heart and Stroke Foundation Jump Rope for Heart event on Tuesday, February 20th, 2018. All money raised will support the Heart and Stroke Foundation in their mission to promote children’s health and fund vital heart and stroke research. Jump Rope for Heart is a great way for kids to be active and to help those in their community by donating their pledges to heart disease and stroke research. This year marks Jump Rope for Heart’s 36th Anniversary and the Heart and Stroke Foundation is striving to get 1 million kids jumping in close to 4,000 schools across Canada.

Our school has set a goal of raising $ 1000.00

Please help support your child’s fundraising efforts by registering them online at and send out donations request emails to friends, family, and colleagues. Each student was sent home with pledge envelopes if you prefer to collect donations in-person. Please ensure that their pledge envelope is returned on the day of their school’s Jump Event Day.

We thank you in advance for your support.

Sick Kids – A student in our school is raising money for Sick Kids and has asked the students of SJA for help. His goal is to raise $1000.00 to provide the children of sick kids with board games and video games. You also have the option to bring in any used video games that need a new home. All donations are appreciated. We thank you for your support!

Clothing- Please ensure that you are sending your child to school with proper outdoor gear! It is still very cold and some students are not coming to school with all of the proper clothes to keep them warm. Students will not be kept inside for recess if they do not have the proper gear. So let's stay warm and bring all hats, scarves, mits, jackets, snow pants and snow boots.

That’s all folks!

And remember, email if you ever have any questions.

Have an awesome weekend,

Ms. Samuel
