It's Pancake Tuesday

What a Tuesday we had folks!

Today we started off the morning celebrating pancake Tuesday, and we did it the best way we knew how… a pancake eating contest! We gathered into our houses and had to take on the challenge of eating 200 pancakes per team. It was a close race, but it was confirmed that Zeta was the victorious house. Another tough loss for Kappa, as we were the 3 year reigning champs, but I am sure we will take top prize in the next event!

Can you believe we ate all those pancakes!

Today was not only pancake Tuesday, but it was also the 100th day of school! To celebrate being the smartest, brightest and best SJA kiddos that we can be we split up into2 groups and worked on a puzzle, and you guessed it, it had 100 pieces! Once the puzzle was complete they had to piece it together again, but this time they were to stick each puzzle piece on bristle board and decorate their master piece. Here are some of the pictures from our day:

As you all know, we are having a Unit 4: Decimals retest this Thursday, February 15. A review of all the concepts we learned during this unit was sent home yesterday evening. We reviewed all the answers in class and spent some time going over the areas of the test where we didn’t do our very best. We seem to have regained confidence and have smoothed out areas that we were a little confused on. Just a reminder, this retest is not mandatory. If you and your child are happy with the effort that was put into the first test then they do not have to retake it; however, this is an opportunity for each student to improve. The higher grade will be recorded as their final mark. So study hard, and just believe, because I know you can do it.

We continued our UOI unit on Medieval Times. Yesterday we learned about wanted posters and created a rough draft of what we wanted to display on our posters. In class today we made some corrections and added a little more detail. They are to be done for homework this evening if they were not finished in class today. If time allows tomorrow, we will be staining our posters using tea bags to create authentic wanted posters.

And last but not least we had another birthday in class. On this day February 13 Jaya was born. We all wish Jaya a very happy birthday!

Just a reminder, we will be facing off against the Maples this week in our Oral Presentation Competition.  Surkhab will be representing the 4th grade with her speech about Steve Jobs.  All are welcome to come and watch the students perform their amazing speeches; we would love to see you there and to have you support all the kiddos at St. Jude’s Academy. So come on out and watch our kids of SJA compete against the students from the Maples Academy on Thursday, February 15!

Also I forgot to mention, tomorrow is our Valentine’s Spirit Day! Students are encouraged to wear festive colours (pink, red, purple or white – or a combination of all of them). I am also allowing the kiddos to share festive cards, small gifts and treats. Please keep the treats classroom friendly, so that means no peanuts or tree nuts.

I’m looking forward to another festive day!

Jump Rope for Heart - St. Jude’s Academy is please to be holding a Heart and Stroke Foundation Jump Rope for Heart event on Tuesday, February 20th, 2018. All money raised will support the Heart and Stroke Foundation in their mission to promote children’s health and fund vital heart and stroke research. Jump Rope for Heart is a great way for kids to be active and to help those in their community by donating their pledges to heart disease and stroke research. This year marks Jump Rope for Heart’s 36th Anniversary and the Heart and Stroke Foundation is striving to get 1 million kids jumping in close to 4,000 schools across Canada.

Our school has set a goal of raising $ 1000.00

Please help support your child’s fundraising efforts by registering them online at JumpRopeForHeart.ca and send out donations request emails to friends, family, and colleagues. Each student was sent home with pledge envelopes if you prefer to collect donations in-person. Please ensure that their pledge envelope is returned on the day of their school’s Jump Event Day.

We thank you in advance for your support.

Sick Kids – A student in our school is raising money for Sick Kids and has asked the students of SJA for help. His goal is to raise $1000.00 to provide the children of sick kids with board games and video games. All donations are appreciated. We thank you for your support!

Clothing- Please ensure that you are sending your child to school with proper outdoor gear! It is still very cold and some students are not coming to school with all of the proper clothes to keep them warm. Students will not be kept inside for recess if they do not have the proper gear. So let's stay warm and bring all hats, scarves, mits, jackets, snow pants and snow boots.

And remember, email if you ever have any questions.

Have an awesome evening,

Ms. Samuel
