All About Me

My name is Nicole Samuel and I am one of the Grade 4 teachers for this upcoming school year. I have been a teacher at SJA since January 2018 and this will be my third-year teaching Grade 4.

I am a graduate of Central Michigan University Elementary Education Program and an Alum of the CMU Women’s Soccer Team.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy being physically active (soccer is my favourite sport, go Manchester United!), watching movies, working on "do it yourself" crafts, and spending time with my family. I can hardly wait to get to know all of you!

Novel Study - The Ghost in the Churchyard

Wanted!

For this activity students must create a wanted poster for Lord Lacey, or Robin Savage!

Here's what they should include on their wanted poster:

Picture: In order to catch these criminals, we need to know what they look like. Use the descriptions of how Lord Lacey and Robin Savage were described in the previous chapters to help create an illustration.

Name: If we want to catch these criminals, you must spell their names correctly. We don't want to mistake them for someone else!

Crime: We can't obtain justice if we don't know what crime they committed! Be sure to include all the details of their crime.

Reward: To encourage people to help be on the lookout for our criminals, we need to offer people a sincere reward for their help. How much money will you give as a reward?

FUN FACT - Did you know that it is a common misconception that wanted posters were used in Medieval Times? Wanted posters were used hundreds of years after the Middle Ages! It wasn't until the invention of the printing press, during the time of the Old West, that wanted posters were used. In the Middle Ages, if a person was being sought after for a crime, typically an announcement was made by churches or by proclamations sent from site to site (village to village). We are only using wanted posters today as a visual aid for our activity.

Extra Step: How would you let people know about a crime that has been committed? Use olde English to help you write a medieval announcement to catch Lord Lacey or Robin Savage.

Be sure to include all the same criteria (except for a picture - you will have to describe how your criminal looks. Use your book to guide you).

Unit of Inquiry:
Today the grade 4s were knighted for completing their becoming a knight activity. Welcome to knighthood!:

Today the grade 4s continued working on their castle designs. For this mini assignment, students are using what they have learned about peasant cottages, manors, and castles to create their ideal living quarters.

They need to make sure that their structure is accurate, they can explain or label the parts of their living quarters, and to explain why they would live in their desired living quarters. Their drawings, or digital models, are due on Monday, March 2nd. They have also been given the opportunity to create a miniature version of their design out of recyclable, and daily materials if they choose - this is not a requirement and will not be graded, it's just a fun activity to try over the weekend!
