All About Me

My name is Nicole Samuel and I am one of the Grade 4 teachers for this upcoming school year. I have been a teacher at SJA since January 2018 and this will be my third-year teaching Grade 4.

I am a graduate of Central Michigan University Elementary Education Program and an Alum of the CMU Women’s Soccer Team.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy being physically active (soccer is my favourite sport, go Manchester United!), watching movies, working on "do it yourself" crafts, and spending time with my family. I can hardly wait to get to know all of you!

Inquiry into Math:
Today the grade 4s received their second review package. This review is not mandatory, so the grade 4s have the choice whether or not they feel they need the extra practice.  Here are the concepts that your child should have a good understanding of for their upcoming test:

Their Unit 4: Decimals test will be on Thursday, February 6th. Due to our preparation and participation in this year's Oral competition, our upcoming Unit 4: Decimals test may be split between two class periods (Thursday and Friday), to allow students more time to complete their test (if necessary).

Activity with Ms. Alyssa: Today the grade 4s participated in a lesson on empathy with Ms. Alyssa:

Inquiry into Language: Today the grade 4s had some time to work on their  lesson 19 spelling activities:
Grade 4: Vowel pairs and digraphs
Grade 5: compound words
Tip: two vowels come together to make one long vowel sound. the second vowel is silent.
     ·       ee and ea as in feet and reason
     ·       oa and oe as in loaned and hoed
     ·       ue as in clues
in vowel digraphs, two vowels come together to make a vowel sound that can be long or short
     ·       ea as in measure

Tip: a compound word is made up of two or more words. Some compound words have a hyphen between the word.
Rule: when dividing compound words into syllables, first divide the compound words between the words that form them
