Take a look at what we accomplished today!
Inquiry into Math:
Today the grade 4s reviewed how to use a protractor. We watched this video to help us understand how to measure angles:
We discussed the types of angles that you can create. Then the grade 4s worked independently to create a 150 degree angle, once they should me how they did that, they measured an angle on the board and told me their answer. Once they were able to successfully complete the two task they were able to move on to the practice work from the textbook.
Over the next few days, the grade 4s will continue to practice using their protractors in order to become more comfortable using it in their studies.

Inquiry into Language:
Today the grade 4s began working on their lesson 20 spelling activities. Due to our short week the lesson 20 spelling test will be on tomorrow.
Today we began reading The Ghosts in the Churchyard, Marty Pullin. We met our two protagonists, the twins, Emily and William Goodfellow of Tintinhull. Emily and William have left their home in the middle of the night to go to the churchyard to wait for the ghosts. But not just any type of ghosts, they are waiting for the wraiths. Ghosts are the spirits of the dead, wraiths are spirits of the living! As they are waiting with their friends hiding near the churchyard walls, the first ghost appears. What will happen next!

Unit of Inquiry:
Today we reviewed what we learned about the Feudal System by performing a demonstration of what it would be like. Students were randomly selected for the following roles: peasant, vassal, nobleman, or king/queen. Once their role was chosen each student was given ten tokens to represent the goods or money they had to offer. Then it was time to pay their dues! Here was the scenario we played out today:Since the peasants were paying for their protection with their crops, the vassals confiscated six tokens from each peasant.
From each peasant's payment, the vassals were allowed to keep one token and had to give five tokens to their noble/lord.
From each vassal's payment of loyalty, each noble/lord was able to keep two tokens and had to give three tokens to the king/queen.
By the end of the activity, it was evident that king/queen received the majority of the profit without doing any work. The peasants were left with less than half the tokens that they started with. The students came to realize that this system only benefited people of status and left them struggling to survive.
The grade 4s completed a cut and paste activity to fill in their own Feudal Prism Pyramid:
