-Polar Expressions is back again this year and they are looking for students to have the chance to publish poems and short stories in an upcoming book. Information sheets have been sent. Students who are interested in this competition can do so on their own time, as class time will not be given. The deadline for poems is November 29th and the deadline for short stories is December 6th.
-We have an upcoming extra curricular activity! Read the following information:
The Grade 4 classes will be attending a workshop put on by The Scientist in the School program. As part of the Grade 4 Unit of Inquiry, How the world works – Light & Sound, students have been learning:
Central Idea: Innovations in light and sound technology have improved the lives of humans.
Lines of Inquiry:
• The sources and properties of light and sound (Form)
• The various ways in which light and sound are produced, transmitted and used (Function)
• The impact of light and sound on people. (Causation)
The workshop they will be participating in is called Sound is Music to My Ears. This workshop will take place at St. Jude’s Academy on Monday, December 2nd from 9 – 12.

Inquiry into Math:
Today we worked on estimating the area of irregular shapes. We used 2 strategies to discover this:
In order to put what they learned in action, some students chose to use a large sheets of graph paper or manipulatives to get a better understanding of how to find the area of irregularly shaped figures.
Inquiry into Language:
Today we continued to collecting evidence for our Student-Led Conferences. Students found items that represent their best work, hardest work, areas of improvement, and most fun memory.
Spelling Lesson 12 is a review week, so there will not be a spelling test on Friday. All spelling activities are due on Friday.
Grammar Lesson 2 was sent home yesterday. This is still due on Friday. We will be havving a grammar test on lessons 1 and 2 on Friday.

Today we focused on Christianity. We talked about the story of creation. Isabella brought in her bible to share with the class:
The kids are being very open-minded and are sharing a lot about themselves and about the religion that they practice. Please encourage your child to bring in any items that they would like to put on display for our unit.
