All About Me

My name is Nicole Samuel and I am one of the Grade 4 teachers for this upcoming school year. I have been a teacher at SJA since January 2018 and this will be my third-year teaching Grade 4.

I am a graduate of Central Michigan University Elementary Education Program and an Alum of the CMU Women’s Soccer Team.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy being physically active (soccer is my favourite sport, go Manchester United!), watching movies, working on "do it yourself" crafts, and spending time with my family. I can hardly wait to get to know all of you!

Take a look at what we accomplished today!

Inquiry into Math:
Today in math we looked over our math homework to ensure that the students are making connections in our unit. Today our focus was on finding the area of irregular polygons using grids:

Inquiry into Language:
Today we silent read for 40 minutes. The goal today was to choose a book that would challenge our brains. I encouraged the class to choose a book that they may not normally read to expand their genre, develop their vocabulary, and to improve their comprehension skills.

After our silent reading session, we played Game of Quotes. Students used the books they were reading to come up with answers to outrageous prompts. Each group voted on their favourite quote to award a group with points.

Spelling Lesson 12 is a review week, so there will not be a spelling test this Friday. All spelling activities are due on Friday.

Grammar Lesson 2 was sent home yesterday. This is still due on Friday. We will be havving a grammar test on lessons 1 and 2 on Friday.

Unit of Inquiry:
Today we organized our UOI binders with our best work, hardest work, and our work that needs improvement.

Today we continued to learn about religions. We learned about a few religions and what they mean to individuals practicing that faith. The kids shared a lot of what they know about their religions and what they practice at home.

Please encourage your child to bring in any items that they would like to put on display for our unit.
