We encourage all families

kindly ask that all families stay and enjoy the show until the end.

This past weekend Charlotte had a Hockey tournament! Her team played extremely hard, but they came up just short of getting a spot in the next round. Keep up that fighting spirit Charlotte!

Today I held a conference with each student to help them understand the areas they need to improve on before they begin their next DRA. After that, we came together as a class and discussed some key things to remember when completing their DRAs:
• Read everything – this included the title, author, headings, subheadings, captions, etc.
• Take your time while reading – but read at a nice steady pace
• Correct any silly reading mistakes – we all make mistakes! If you correct your mistakes, they will not count.
• Answer all comprehension questions in complete sentences!
• When you can, use your book – this is a perfect resource it has all the answers.
• Write in your own words and thoughts! – Plagiarism is a big deal!
• When writing a summary, use information from each section of the book. That way, you can be sure to cover all the important details.
• When you have a choice to list 2 or 3 answers, ALWAYS DO MORE!
• When answering questions, echo the question in your answer – this helps you make sure you are answering what is being asked.
• DETAIL, DETAIL, DETAIL – explain all of your ideas, and use evidence from the story to support your ideas.
Yesterday we learned about writing Journal Recounts:
Over the next couple of days we will begin writing rough drafts in order to prepare for our OWA post test after the winter break.
