All About Me

My name is Nicole Samuel and I am one of the Grade 4 teachers for this upcoming school year. I have been a teacher at SJA since January 2018 and this will be my third-year teaching Grade 4.

I am a graduate of Central Michigan University Elementary Education Program and an Alum of the CMU Women’s Soccer Team.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy being physically active (soccer is my favourite sport, go Manchester United!), watching movies, working on "do it yourself" crafts, and spending time with my family. I can hardly wait to get to know all of you!

Tomorrow is bake sale and Christmas spirit day. Students can come to school dress in red, green, white, pjs, closthes, costumes etc. Students who are not participating are asked to come to school in their full school day uniforms.

Also, tomorrow we will be having a class Holiday Party. If you would like to bring in a treat for the class, we ask that you ensure that it is peanut and tree nut free.

Before your child leaves for Holiday Break, please remind them that they will need to take home all their belongings (uniform pieces, outdoor gear, etc.) to ensure that the school can be properly cleaned over the holidays and so that they are not losing any of their personal items.

Today we watched the inspiration for our Christmas Concert performance: Frosty the Snowman!

Inquiry into Math:
Today we discussed mean, median, & mode:

Tomorrow I will be sending home a math package for you child to complete over holiday break. This package is to help your child continue to practice the concepts involving data. So far we have talked about the reasons we collect data and looking at different types of averages in our data set.

Can you solve these holiday math problems?

Holiday Crafts:
Today we worked on creating a holiday ornament. We use macaroni noodles, and paint to create a picture frame ornament. Tomorrow we will glue our pictures in the center.

The students also began working together to create a holiday scene for our classroom door.

Inquiry into Language:
To continue practicing for our OWA - Journal Recount Writing, students will be given a holiday journal to write down all the fun and interesting things that they experienced over break. Remember to use the journal writing elements and proper formatting and style when writing your journals.

Speeches are also coming up after the holiday break. Tomorrow we will discuss some topic ideas. A package will be sent home to begin preparing for the competition.
