Good Morning Families!
Please read all the information below to get the latest scoop on our daily activities and lessons!
Welcome Back! I hope you all had a fun and relaxing March Break! Due to the recent COVID-19 Pandemic, SJA is moving to an online classroom format for continued learning. We will be using Discord as our online classroom.
If you have not had a chance to register your child for my classroom, please use the following link to meet with me on a daily basis: https://discord.gg/cByfWxr.
Students will only need to be logged into our Discord classroom during these times:
Math - 9:00 - 9:20
Language - 12:00 - 1:00 (we may not be chatting during the entire period, so you can log on only when you have a question)
UOI - 2:15 - 3:00 (we may not be chatting during the entire period, so you can log on only when you have a question)
Here is the schedule for the day:
I will be sending the necessary class materials for each class the night before via email. If there are any extra worksheets I will send them throughout the day. I will post any necessary links in our discord classroom as well.
Students are expected to think of our discord classroom the same way they would about our regular classroom. It is not set up to be a chatroom, but I do encourage students to use it to work together and ask each other question when doing daily activities. Students are expected to be logged out of our discord classroom by 3:00 pm everyday (dismissal), but if you need me I will be available on Discord until 5:00 pm for any extra questions that you might have. After 5 pm I will be logged out of our discord classroom, but I will check my email periodically until 6:30 pm for any urgent questions.
We will have more access to one another, but it is important that we all take a break from our devices to spend time on our hobbies, or time with our family members. COVID-19 has caused a great deal of uncertainty for us, and may continue to do so, but a positive that we can take from this is more time spent with the ones that we love!

French
Mme. Stella will use our Discord link for her classes.
Mme. Stella's classes will be everyday from 1:00 - 1:30.
Bonjour mes amis!
At St. Jude’s Academy, we want to maintain our students happy and eager to learn; therefore we want to explain the situation so they don’t develop an anxiety but rather, take “Action” by using new precautions and keep developing the positive attitude and academic skills to help them to grow. Here are some links that could also help to keep the exposure to the French language.

Mr. Orr's classes will be on Mondays,Wednesdays and Friday
from 10:20 - 11:00. Please check the blog on the designated days above at 9:00 am for details about Mr. Orr's lesson.
A message from Mr. Orr:
Good morning and welcome to online learning! Hopefully you
have all had a restful March break! The way Phys. Ed. will run for the coming
weeks is a little different than regular school hours. We will have a “live”
time online on Mondays from 10:20-11 in my Phys. Ed. Discord channel. Here I
will share expectations and requirements for the week and answer any questions
students may have. There are two requirements for the students to complete
throughout the week. These requirements include some physical activity and a
health activity.
For the physical portion, each morning on Discord and on the
classroom blog I will post a physical activity challenge. It will be something
simple and I will do my best to show the students exactly what I want them to
do. Students will need to record themselves completing the challenge and send
it to me either on Discord or by email (if they have a YouTube channel they can
upload it to YouTube and send me the link). To go along with this challenge I
have also attached a tracker for students to keep track of their physical
activity. Students are expected to be active for at least 30 minutes a day.
This can be done at separate times throughout the day or all at once. The
activity challenge I post can be a part of it but it will not be long enough to
cover the full 30 minutes, so students will need to choose their own activity
to fill the rest of their time. Once they record their activity on the calendar
it will need to be signed by a parent or guardian. At the end of the week
students will take a picture or scan a copy of their completed weekly calendar
with signatures, and send it to me by email to prove they have been active
every day! So go out and be active, but remember to continue practicing your
social distancing and healthy habits!
Todays Physical Activity Challenge: 5 Minute Set
Challenge
-
Your challenge for
today is to do as many sets as you can in 5 minutes. A set includes 5 push-ups,
5 sit-ups, and 5 squats. Set a timer for 5 minutes and then start! Do 5
push-ups, 5 sit-ups, 5 squats (that’s 1 set) and start over with 5 push-ups.
Continue until your timer is up. Don’t forget to record it and send it to me
with your total number of sets done! Check out our Phys. Ed. Discord channel
for my video and see how your classmates did!
For the Health portion, students will be given a task on
Monday that needs to be worked on throughout the week and submitted on Friday.
I will explain the task, work through questions and give examples during my
live online time in my Discord classroom on Mondays from 10:20-11. I will also
be available anytime from 9-3:45 on both Discord or by email to answer any
questions students have or to give support. I will give reminders about these
tasks daily on the classroom morning blog and on Discord, and I will be sharing
my experiences through this time as well. Our first weekly health task is
outlined below. I will give further details on Monday during our “class time”.
Today's learning goal: Students will demonstrate an
understanding of what healthy eating looks like outside the school environment.
- Our goal this week
is to try to prepare and eat healthy foods. It is important that we continue to
eat healthy and stay active to maintain our overall health. Your job this week
is to come up with 3 healthy snacks and 1 healthy meal that you can eat at your
house. Snacks can be as simple as a bowl of fruit, or something you actually
have to make. Throughout the week you will need to send me pictures of your
healthy snacks that you are making and eating. You will also need to work with
your parents to help make a healthy meal. This could be breakfast, lunch or
dinner, but it has to be healthy and it has to be homemade. Once you have made your
meal, send me a picture with a description of what it is and how it is healthy.
Keep in mind that when cooking you should always have a parent around to help
out and make sure everything is safe!
