Quote of the Day:
Inquiry into Math:
Today we combined our knowledge of
number patterns and creating patterns using input and out put machines
(tables). We discovered that we can use our number patterns to extend our
tables without drawing diagrams to help us get the answer:
Concepts:
Input/Output Machine: Terms
are presented in a chart, input numbers are on the right and out put numbers
are on the left. To obtain an output number we must apply an operation (
addition, subtract, multiplication, or division) to our input numbers.
Growing Patterns: A
pattern where each term is greater than the previous one.
Shrinking Patterns: A
pattern where each term is less than the previous one.
Alternating Patterns: A
pattern where the operation used or term alternates getting bigger and then
smaller (or vice versa).
Pattern Rule: Describes
how to make a pattern.
Operation: Something
done to a number or quantity. Addition, subtraction, multiplication and
division are operations.
Inquiry into Language:
Today we took time to read silently
in the morning. After that we looked at a synopsis of our first novel study, Anne
of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery. After reading the character sketch, the
students used some descriptive vocabulary and some of their own ideas to draw an
illustration of what they think Anne looked like.
Spelling activities are due tomorrow, Wednesday, September 11th. Our First Spelling test will be Friday, September 13th.
