Good Afternoon,
Please read all the information below to get the latest scoop on our day!
Reminders
- Polar Expressions is back again this year and they are looking for students to have the chance to publish poems and short stories in an upcoming book. Information sheets have been sent. Students who are interested in this competition can do so on their own time, as class time will not be given. The deadline for poems is November 29th and the deadline for short stories is December 6th.
See you all tonight!
Today we talked about strategies that can help us when we are dividing:
That concludes our second unit, we will be having our second unit test next week on Thursday, October 10th. We will begin our Show What You Know Review on Monday.
A copy of this letter has been sent home with your child. Please return it to me and I will pass it along to Mrs. Haag.
Today we began our Summary Quilt activity. For this activity students were randomly chosen to select a chapter of their choice. These are the chapters that each student needs to focus on:
With this selection each student is to create an illustration of their chosen chapter that depicts the main event of the chapter. With this illustration they should include the title of the chapter, a couple of sentences that further desrcibes the scene; at the bottom right corner they should sign their work. This is what the page should look like:
A blank piece of white paper has been sent home for your child to start their roung draft of their scene. This does not need to be coloured as it is only a rough draft. Some students have volunteered to complete two summaries, please draw your second summary illustration on the back of your first illustration.
International Day Preparation
Our annual International Day is quickly approaching and will take place on Thursday, October 17th. The class brought it to my attention that they have already know so much about Brazil. So we did some brain storming and this year we will be learning about FRANCE. To make sure that everyone had a fair chance to research a topic that they were interested, I drew names out of a box. These are the groups for our international day:
Spelling procedures are as follows:
1. Copy your spelling words into your agendas in cursive
2. Define your bonus words
3. Complete spelling lesson activities
4. Hand in completed spelling activities on Wednesdays
5. Study for spelling tests nightly
How do I know if I know my spelling words? Well, can you use them in a sentence? Can you define the word to someone else? Do you know other words that have the same meanings (synonyms)? Do you know words that mean the opposite?
Unit of Inquiry:
Today I handed back our Physical Regions Quiz. Please review your child's quiz with them.
