All About Me

My name is Nicole Samuel and I am one of the Grade 4 teachers for this upcoming school year. I have been a teacher at SJA since January 2018 and this will be my third-year teaching Grade 4.

I am a graduate of Central Michigan University Elementary Education Program and an Alum of the CMU Women’s Soccer Team.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy being physically active (soccer is my favourite sport, go Manchester United!), watching movies, working on "do it yourself" crafts, and spending time with my family. I can hardly wait to get to know all of you!

A copy of this letter has been sent home with your child. Please return it to me and I will pass it along to Mrs. Haag.

Inquiry into Language:
Today we wrote our Spelling Lesson 4 tests. Please review your child's test and have them correct any misspelled words 10 times each. Please send back your child's spelling test with a signature tomrorrow.

Today the class silently read chapters 23 & 24. Ask your child what happened to see how Anne's story ends.

For tonight, your child's task is to finish reading chapters 23 & 24 if they did not complete the novel in class today. They also must complete their novel study role as a Researcher. For this role, your child must use their device, a book, or another source of information to look up some background information on their novel. They will share their findings with the class tomorrow.

Next week we will be starting our two novel study summative activites to wrap up our Term 1 Novel Study Unit.

International Day Preparation
Our annual International Day is quickly approaching and will take place on Thursday, October 17th. The class brought it to my attention that they have already know so much about Brazil. So we did some brain storming and this year we will be learning about FRANCE. To make sure that everyone had a fair chance to research a topic that they were interested, I drew names out of a box. These are the topics that each student will be researching:

We took some time today to get started on our research:

The girls are practicing a dance for International Day!

Spelling procedures are as follows:

1.     Copy your spelling words into your agendas in cursive
2.     Define your bonus words
3.     Complete spelling lesson activities
4.     Hand in completed spelling activities on Wednesdays
5.     Study for spelling tests nightly

How do I know if I know my spelling words? Well, can you use them in a sentence? Can you define the word to someone else? Do you know other words that have the same meanings (synonyms)? Do you know words that mean the opposite?

Unit of Inquiry:
Today we wrote our Physical Regions Quiz. Please review your child's quiz with them.

Today we continued to work on our natural resources project to discover some of the specific resources that are valuable to each province. Then we looked at Canada's Economic Regions. We found that Canada is broken up into 4 different economic regions: Western Region, Atlantic Region, Central Region, and Northern Region. Based on the similarities of the resources that can be found in each province, Canada has been broken up into these specific regions. Each region brings in money to our Country which helps Canada to be successful.

Taking time to discover the 4
economic regions in Canada:

French - Please check Mme. Stella's blog under specialist links.
