We have begun reviewing our multiplication facts. Here are some of the strategies we looked at today:
A copy of this letter has been sent home with your child. Please return it to me and I will pass it along to Mrs. Haag.
We read chapter 21 of our Anne of Green Gables novel. Marilla and Matthew Cuthburt travelled to Charlottetown to see Anne graduate. Anne had received the Avery Scholarship, so instead of teaching next year she would be on her way to Redmond College. Anne was excited, but when she found out that Gilbert wouldn't be attending Redmond College, due to financial reasons, she became quite sad.
The next morning she had noticed Matthew working around the property but he wasn't looking like his usual self. Was Matthew stressed from hearing the news about the Mr. Abbey's bank not doing well, was their money in trouble? Or was Matthew's change in appearance due to another reason? Stay tuned to find out in the next chapters.
Your child's task is to finish reading chapter 22 for tomorrow's class. They also must complete their novel study role as a Literary Luminary. For this role, your child must look through their novel to find passages, quotes, or words that they feel has some importance to the story. They must write down the page number they are getting the example from, why it holds some importance and what their topic of discussion will be about.
International Day Preparation
Our annual International Day is quickly approaching and will take place on Thursday, October 17th. The class brought it to my attention that they have already know so much about Brazil. So we did some brain storming and this year we will be learning about is FRANCE. To make sure that everyone had a fair chance to research a topic that they were interested, I drew names out of a box. These are the topics that each student will be researching:

Spelling procedures are as follows:
1. Copy your spelling words into your agendas in cursive
2. Define your bonus words
3. Complete spelling lesson activities
4. Hand in completed spelling activities on Wednesdays
5. Study for spelling tests nightly
How do I know if I know my spelling words? Well, can you use them in a sentence? Can you define the word to someone else? Do you know other words that have the same meanings (synonyms)? Do you know words that mean the opposite?
Unit of Inquiry:
Our next quiz will be tomorrow. This time our quiz will be about the physical regions of Canada. Please study each region and know the following criteria: physical features, climate, vegetation, animal life, and natural resources.
Today we continued our inquiry about natural resources. We cut and pasted resources and put them under the correct headings. We have started a mini project about natural resources in each province, once the class has completed their research, each students will present their findings to the class. After that is complete, we will take a look at how some of these resources impact our economy.
