All About Me

My name is Nicole Samuel and I am one of the Grade 4 teachers for this upcoming school year. I have been a teacher at SJA since January 2018 and this will be my third-year teaching Grade 4.

I am a graduate of Central Michigan University Elementary Education Program and an Alum of the CMU Women’s Soccer Team.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy being physically active (soccer is my favourite sport, go Manchester United!), watching movies, working on "do it yourself" crafts, and spending time with my family. I can hardly wait to get to know all of you!

Take a look at what we accomplished today!

Inquiry into Math:
Today we continued working with money by making change. We used subtraction to figure out what our change was and then we looked at how we can represent our change in bills and coins:

Inquiry into Language:

Spelling Lesson 7 tests have been sent home. Please review the test with your child and have them correct any misspelled words 10 times each.

Today we continued to work on our rough draft for our light and sound reports. Most students worked together to edit each others work. Students have been given the weekend to work on fine tuning their rough drafts. Another editing session well be held on Tueday.

Spelling procedures are as follows:

1.     Copy your spelling words into your agendas in cursive
2.     Define your bonus words
3.     Complete spelling lesson activities
4.     Hand in completed spelling activities on Wednesdays
5.     Study for spelling tests nightly

How do I know if I know my spelling words? Well, can you use them in a sentence? Can you define the word to someone else? Do you know other words that have the same meanings (synonyms)? Do you know words that mean the opposite?

Unit of Inquiry:

Tody we continued learning about light with Ms. Frizzle and her class:

We will soon be exploring how light and colour are related, so for homework, your child has been assigned a book about colour blindness on Raz Kids to help them become familiar with the topic.

Congratulations to our Beaver Den Challenge winners!
