Reminders
-Polar Expressions is back again this year and they are looking for students to have the chance to publish poems and short stories in an upcoming book. Information sheets have been sent. Students who are interested in this competition can do so on their own time, as class time will not be given. The deadline for poems is November 29th and the deadline for short stories is December 6th.
December Lunches - The lunch site is now open. It will close Wednesday, November 20th at 3:00pm
Special of the month: Spaghetti and Meatballs which is available every Friday.
All payments are to be made through quickbooks by December 6th.

Inquiry into Math:
Today we reviewed the homework from the weekend just to check our understanding of linear dimensions and relating units of measure (conversions).
Today we explored measuring things using non-standard units to estimate lengths. We talked about certain scenarios where we might have to use non-standard units to estimate lengths. We also talked about why these measurements are only estimates and not exact measurements. We came up with the following:
After we had some time to brainstorm other non-standard units, we put them into action. Each student came up with a few non-standard units and measured the following:
- the distance from the teacher's desk to he classroom door
- the distance from the classroom door to the principals office
- the distance from the main entrance to the side entrance

All spelling activities are due on Wednesday. We will have our spelling test on Friday.
The grade 4 team has also implemented a grammar practice workbook. Students will be given a grammar package on Monday that will be reviewed in class. This package to help students with developing good grammar habits, for example: capitalization, punctuation, etc. These practices will be due on Fridays.

H in honest, gh in flight, b in thumb
T in often *some people pronounce the t

Objective: to spell words with diphthongs ou, ow,oi, and oy
Tips: diphthong- two letters blended together to make one vowel sound
Ou and ow spell ow sound in boundary and crowded
Oi and oy spell the oy sound in poise and loyalty

Unit of Inquiry:
Today we learned how to make a rainstorm using our own bodies. We talked about how this could be done. Then we tried to create our own rainstorm, this was our first attempt:

Then we took some time to brainstorm other sounds in our lives that we can imitate using only our bodies. Tomorrow the groups will present their worldly sounds.
