Here are a few updates to help get you back into the swing of things:
Kappa Students ONLY will receive a casual day on Thursday this week for bringin in the most clothes during the upper school clothing drive. Congratulations Kappa, thank you to all the houses for making this a great event.
Aftercare invoices were sent out at the beginning of the month. Please ensure that all invoices are paid by Jan. 15th.
February Lunches - The lunch site is now open. It will close Wednesday, January 22nd at 3:00 pm. Special of the month: Chicken Stir Fry is available every Friday. All payments are to be made through quickbooks by February 6th.
Dear SJA Families,
Our Junior Kindergarten (JK) registration season is fast approaching and we wanted to reach out to all of our families and friends to ensure that you are offered priority enrolment in our JK program for the 2020-2021 academic year. Please let us know if you are interested in enrolling your child in our JK Program by Friday, January 10th, 2020 by 4:00 pm. After this date and time, the spots for the JK Program will be open to new families on the wait list.
If you are interested in enrolling your child in either program, please contact us and we will send you a registration package.

The market will include fruits, vegetables, drinks and other healthy snacks. It will be held in rooms 12 and 18. The market will take place all day Thursday, January 23rd and Friday, January 24th. All profits made will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House.

Inquiry into Math:
The grade 4s have completed their 5 unit, Data Management and have begun their review sessions in order to prepare for their upcoming Data Management assignment on Thurs. Jan. 16 & Fri. Jan. 17th. This assignment will be done completely in class. Each student is required to conduct a survey about the religious demographic of the grade 3 -6 classes (this assignment is in connection with our Who we are Unit of Inquiry. Each student will need to construct a bar graph and a pictograph, and answer a few follow up questions to analyse their data.
As a class, we checked over a couple of homework questions from our Math Makes Sense workbooks to check our understanding of mean, median, mode, range and scale, as well as creating bar graphs and pictographs, and interpreting data results.

Spelling Lesson 16 -
Spelling activites are due on Wednesday. There will be a spelling test on Friday.
Today the grade 4s wrote their second OWA test. Their task was to write a recount journal about something they experienced over their Holiday Break. They were to use their journal writing elements, linking words, chronological order and other recount writing elements in order to write a descriptive journal entry.
Tomorrow the grade 4s will continue to work on their speeches. The grade 4s are encouraged to visit their local library to collect books, videos, etc. that will help them to continue to develop their speech.
Grade 4: Words ending with y – adding ed, es and ing

Tip: When a word ends in y preceded by a consonant, change the y to I before adding an ending, unless the ending ing
Ex. Worry + es = worries
