Inquiry into Math:
Today the grade 4s worked on interpreting survey results. The key to interpreting survey results its to obtain a set of data, and data cannot be obtained without a sample group - a small group chosen from the entire group. The grade 4s also learned that at times sample groups can lead to what is called bias - when data is shown in a way that someone wants you to see them; a sample with bias does not truly represent the group.
The grade 4s then worked in groups to answer textbook questions about developing survey questions, conducting surveys without being biased, and answering questions about graphs and line graphs.
