Quote of the Day - Bringing a little inspiration to your day!
Take a look at what we accomplished today!
Inquiry into Math:
Today the grade 4s worked on creating line graphs. Just like bar graphs, when creating line graphs it is important to organize your data first. They made sure that they labelled their graph with a title, labelled their x and y axis and used the appropriate scales.
Before we created our own line graph, we discussed why line graphs are used, what they show, and the similarities and differences there are between bar graphs and line graphs:
Then we created our own line graph using the following information:
Then we graphed the data:
The grade 4s came to the conclusion that there has been a steady increase in Nova Scotia's population from 1950 - 1990. Using this information they made a reasonable prediction in saying that Nova Scotia's poplulation would have likely continued to increase over the next couple of years.
They also stated that to find this out, you would continue to collect data on Nova Scotia's population on a yearly basis.

Due to a short week, we will resume our spelling lessons on Monday, January 13th and continue to follow a regular schedule.
Today the grade 4s began reorganizing their subtopics in order to develop a more engaging speech for their audience. They also began writing their intoductory paragraphs for their speeches.
Over the weekend, the grade 4s are encouraged to visit their local library to collect books, videos, etc. that will help them to continue to develop their speech.
