All About Me

My name is Nicole Samuel and I am one of the Grade 4 teachers for this upcoming school year. I have been a teacher at SJA since January 2018 and this will be my third-year teaching Grade 4.

I am a graduate of Central Michigan University Elementary Education Program and an Alum of the CMU Women’s Soccer Team.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy being physically active (soccer is my favourite sport, go Manchester United!), watching movies, working on "do it yourself" crafts, and spending time with my family. I can hardly wait to get to know all of you!

What a Great Second Day at SJA - Day 2

Image result for day 2

Good Afternoon Families!

Please read all the information below to get the latest scoop on our day!

Reminders

- Tomorrow is Spirit Day! Please ensure that your child shows their school spirit by wearing their house colour tomorrow.

- We have P.E. class tomorrow, but since it is spirit day we will not need our gym clothes.

- As per last year, I will continue to use an app called remind, initially I was going to switch over to Bloomz, but why change what has already been working so well. Through this app I will send updates about important class information. I will also use it as another form of communication if your child may be away or if you have any questions about homework. My office hours for the app will be from 7:30 am to 7:00 pm. To get started on the app, simply download Remind via your app store and join my class using the link below:

Please let me know if you have any problems with the link.

- The last page of the Family Handbook and September hot lunch payments are due by Friday, September 13th. Our Terry Fox Run will also be taking place this day. Students are encouraged to come to school in their SJA gym unform.

- Thursday, September 19th is our SJA and Oakwood Welcome Back BBQ, which will take place from 4:00-5:30 PM out in our back recess area. Order forms have been sent home. Please return, along with cash, no later than Friday, September 13th.

Quote of the Day:

Reading Buddies with Ms. Bannon's Class!!

Today was our first day being big buddies to the students in Ms. Bannon's class. They did such a great job reading to their buddies and helping them pick books. We will be reading with our buddies in the moning on day 2!

Inquiry into Math:
Today we wrote a Show What You Know Pretest for our first unit, Number Patterns. Tomorrow we will dive right into our first lesson!

Inquiry into Language:
Today we filled in the blanks to our very own news paper. In our news papers we wrote about ourselves, from the members in our family to our hopes and dreams. Tomorrow we will share a couple of things about ourselves with the rest of the class.

Yesterday we came up with 10 expectations to live and work by in room 15. Take a look at our list:

Unit of Inquiry:
Today we worked in groups to discover the learner profiles. Each group was given 1-2 learner profiles and they were tasked with coming up with a definition to define each profile, and then they had to draw a picture to illustrate that profile.

Tomorrow we will quickly go over each profile, and then we will begin our first Unit of Inquiry: How we organize ourselve.

Central Idea: Earth’s many geographic regions provide unique resources to its inhabitants.

Key Concepts:
Form
Causation
Connection

Lines of Inquiry:
The physical regions, provinces, and territories of our country. (Form)
The natural resources of Canada’s landform regions. (Causation)
The different economic communities in our landform regions. (Connection)

Related Concepts:
Geography
Resources

Music - Please check Mr. Oliver's blog under specialist links.

Today's house games were pretty intense. We played a couple of rounds of Cavaliers, Knights, and Horses, then some students were put to the test to wrap a teacher from each house in a roll of toilet paper from head to toe!

Ask me how the rest of my day went, because I can't wait to share it all with you!
