All About Me

My name is Nicole Samuel and I am one of the Grade 4 teachers for this upcoming school year. I have been a teacher at SJA since January 2018 and this will be my third-year teaching Grade 4.

I am a graduate of Central Michigan University Elementary Education Program and an Alum of the CMU Women’s Soccer Team.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy being physically active (soccer is my favourite sport, go Manchester United!), watching movies, working on "do it yourself" crafts, and spending time with my family. I can hardly wait to get to know all of you!

Quote of the Day - Bringing a little inspiration to your day!

Take a look at what we accomplished today!

Inquiry into Math:
Today we looked at time in relation to distance. We used a marble as an example. We talked about how we measure a marble when it is still - height and weight. Then we rolled the marble across the floor, the marble is still the marble, but now it is moving. How do we measure this? - DISTANCE and SPEED.

We conducted an experiement to see how long it would take a marble to move 2 meters. The chart below displays what we found:

We also looked an a few examples in our textbook to compare distances and travel time. These examples showed us how to compare speeds and distances. We can see how fast or slow something is.

Inquiry into Language:

Today we outlined the format of a report. The class picked an invention in LIGHT or SOUND to create a topic to focus their individual reports on.

We will be practicing our report writing over the next couple of days in order to prepare for our OWA post test.

Spelling procedures are as follows:

1.     Copy your spelling words into your agendas in cursive
2.     Define your bonus words
3.     Complete spelling lesson activities
4.     Hand in completed spelling activities on Wednesdays
5.     Study for spelling tests nightly

How do I know if I know my spelling words? Well, can you use them in a sentence? Can you define the word to someone else? Do you know other words that have the same meanings (synonyms)? Do you know words that mean the opposite?

Unit of Inquiry:
Tody we completed our Beaver Den presentations. The winner of  the $1, 000, 000 in funding from the Beaver Den will be announced on Friday. Stay tuned to find out who the lucky winners are!

Today we began our second unit of inquiry, How the world works - Light & Sound! We looked at how light and sound are related to our every day lives:

French - Please check Mme. Stella's blog under specialist links.
Physical Education- Please check Mr. Orr's blog under specialist links.

Ask your child how the rest of their day went, because I'm sure they can't wait to share it all with you!
